"'Seraphim?' Don't make me laugh, false angel."

Whoo, I'm finally finished! :D Wow, it felt weird finally being able to do an original piece of work that wasn't a doodle after so long, especially one with surrealist symbolism. But damn, it feels good to be back.

Anyway, this is an entry Aiki-Ame's contest, details of which can be found here: [link]

I really liked the idea of this contest, where you have to draw something based on one of the provided sets of two or three different random objects. I picked Apple|chair|metal (although I only used 'apple' and 'metal').

For this entry, I've used my child-in-body but bratty adult-in-mind vampire, Seraphim.

As for what it all means, I'll leave it up to your interpretation ;D It'd be interesting to see some of the ideas people come up with.

Media used: 0.7 mm mechanical pencil, colour pencils and chalk

EDIT: Cropped picture a little. Argh, DA, why must you kill my colours and render them all dirty and smudgy -_-

The pencils are incredible - the length of the pant lines, how this character's raven black hair goes from his neckline down, the position of the eyeballs, the pose and the little wings you added onto him. (And those shoes are very well done) The colors you used here are the most impressive piece of the whole picture - the black on all of the character, the different shades on the 'apple', and the pink-purple border surrounding the character is magnificent and rich.

You definitely had a creative touch to this piece, starting with the color coded wires on his chest, the apple he clutches in his hand, and the wings that almost look mechanically attached - definitely a brilliant move.

The only real problems I have with this are the wires and the apple - the former looks a little randomly placed, like the colors are all out of order with the next (though they still are very well done), and the latter looks a little weird: it's very symbolic and metaphorical, but the random addition of color just seems forced. I would personally picked a simple red, because that says a lot more: a character that's all black and white, clinging on to one hope of color that hasn't faded away. (Buuut it could be just me)

I'm not a fan of vampires, but this definitely looks like someone I'd want to sit down and have a beer - blood beer - with. So an incredible job mate!
